Custom Buttons: 6 Things to Prepare Before Production

Planning custom buttons for your clothing brand but not sure where to start?

For fashion brands, garment factories and product developers, preparing the right information can help a button manufacturer understand your requirements and make the sample development process more efficient.

Here are six key details to prepare.

1. Button Design

Start by defining the button type, such as a 2-hole, 4-hole, shank or custom-shaped button.

If you already have a drawing, reference image or physical sample, provide it to the manufacturer for evaluation.

2. Button Size

Clearly specify the required size. The button industry commonly uses Ligne (L) as well as millimeters.

If your design requires multiple sizes, specify each size separately.

3. Material

Material affects appearance, function, production process and cost.

Options may include polyester buttons, nylon buttons, natural buttons and rubber buttons, depending on the product requirements.

4. Color and Finish

Provide the required color and a color reference when available.

You should also specify the desired finish, such as matte or glossy. Available colors and finishes depend on the material and manufacturing process.

5. Logo or Artwork

For custom logo buttons, engraved buttons, laser logo buttons or printed buttons, prepare clear artwork for evaluation.

Fine logo details should be considered in relation to button size and the selected production process.

6. Quantity and Application

Provide the estimated order quantity and explain where the button will be used—for example, shirts, suits, trousers, uniforms, workwear or fashion accessories.

This information helps the manufacturer better understand the overall project requirements.
